Álvaro Villar Baile

Álvaro Villar Baile holds a BA degree in Sociology (2018) and a Master’s degree in Models and Research Areas in the Social Sciences (2019) from the University of the Basque Country/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (UPV-EHU). Since 2020 he has been a researcher in training and a scholarship holder for the Basque Government’s pre-doctoral Research Staff Training Programme (FPI). During this period he has collaborated in seminars and conferences hosted by the Collective Identity Research Center and organized by the Disappearances Project, Transnational Perspective Study of a Category to Manage, Inhabit and Analyse Social Catastrophe and Loss (CSO 2015-66318-P). He is currently working on a doctoral thesis project entitled “Terminal Identity. The Death Process in the Basque Health System,” under the direction of Gabriel Gatti. His dissertation deals with issues related to social death and the construction of identity in situations where vulnerability is at the centre of social reality.
