Abstract: Pileni Paualala is the most recent film emerging from a long-term ethnographic film project in the Reef Islands of the Temotu Province, Solomon Islands. The project has focused on exploring events and phenomena linked to kastom, or traditional culture, but also looked at elements of everyday life, such as food and food production. The two Danish anthropologists Peter I Crawford and Jens Pinholt started the project in 1994, working closely together with the neighbouring Aíwoo-speakingand Pileni (Polynesian).speaking communities in Ngasinue and Vaiakau.
Short bio: Peter I. Crawford is an anthropologist, publisher and filmmaker. He is professor of Visual Anthropology at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway and has been teaching at the international master programme of visual anthropology (MVA). He is head of the research group EA:RTH. He is also publishing editor of Intervention Press (www.intervention.dk) and on the editorial board of the international journal AnthroVision. He is general secretary of NAFA (The Nordic Anthropological Film Association: https://nafafilm.org/?q=home) and has been the chairman of the NAFA international film selection committee for many years.
